In 1853 Samuel Smith, founder of Yalumba, first began making wines at his Angaston winery from the fruit of vines he started planting in 1849. The production of fortified wines has always been part of that history. Today, Yalumba maintains its reputation for premium quality fortified wines by occasionally releasing very small parcels of show reserve stocks.

This Chardonnay depicts the Cape Barren Goose, a symbol of an endangered species. Over the years, many birds and animals have sought and found refuge in Yalumba�s sanctuary, land dedicated to native wildlife rehabilitation. Fermentation by natural or �wild� yeast, naturally present in the vineyard has helped shape this wine; think minerality, grapefruit and pineapple flavours.

Pale straw in colour with green hues, and enticing aromas of fennel, apricot nectar, jasmine and curry leaf. On the palate apricot nectar and fennel are joined by white flowers and star fruit leading to a creamy, rich and long mid palate with Asian five spice on the finish. Pair with red duck curry; pad Thai; or red lentil dhal with spinach.

The Cigar shows an intense complex bouquet of cherries and dark chocolate. There is lavender perfume and a touch of dried sage. The palate is typical of Menzies "The Cigar" wines, opening with a burst of plush ripe fruit reminiscent of mulberry compote.
