The Drift Farm

When the Jack family moved to The Drift Farm in 1999 we saw a place of breathtaking beauty and immense agricultural potential. The farm is isolated and tranquil. While it offers a beautifully breathtaking respite for the Homestead guest from the rush of everyday life, it is also a working farm growing delicious organic vegetables, world-class extra virgin olive oil and making finely crafted wines of exceptional quality.

For many this is the essence of The Drift Farm. The nose shows an intoxicating explosion of super ripe mulberry, black cherry, ripe plum, white pepper and fynbos herbs (especially Buchu). The palate echoes this intensity and unctuousness with rich, black mulberry, a hint of creamy caramel and savoury, wild fynbos herbs adding a nice salty note. The tannins are comfortable, but present, offering a…

The nose shows a beguiling mixture of ripe mulberry, white pepper, buchu (a medicinal herb from the Cape Floral Kingdom, used as a blackcurrent flavouring), framed in a touch of toasty, vanilla oak and just the faintest hint of minty caramel chocolate. The palate echos the blackcurrant, mulberry and dark cherry. The tannins are super smooth, long and persistent. This wine benefits from being decan…

A Brave new style of red wine. Crafted from varieties, on the edge of wildness, the aroma can be described as organised chaos. Breathe in deeply because this is the small path less travelled. On the palate the wine sings with plum and blueberry and the peppery edge of exotic spice. Astonishingly, this lively wine is unusually soft, built on the focus and with of perfectly ripe fruit, not on the bi…

The nose shows an intriguing blend of just-ripe strawberry and blueberry, wrapped up in spring herbs and dark chocolate oak. The palate echoes the ripe, red forest fruits of the nose, and also reflects the subtle and complexing herbaceous characters. The tannins are creamy, long and persistent. This wine benefits from being decanted a day or two before consuming. It will age gracefully for at leas…

This Ros is about celebrating the outdoor, sun filled lifestyle. Each vintage is slightly different, reflecting mostly the different growing season weather, but also to a lesser extent the winter weather - cold units and winter rainfall affect budburst and innitial growth. The 2015 is a lot like the 2011 - a great Rose vintage - light pink colour, with an intriguing floral nose of nectarines and…
