California has become one of the world's most recognised growing regions and the establishment of J Lohr Vineyards and Wines came towards the beginning of Californian wines being recognised for their quality. In the 1960s an extensive investigation of Californian growing regions out to ensure the J Lohr vineyard was based in the most fertile, quality ground.
They selected the Arroyo Seco appellation in Monterey County and the first 280 acres of J Lohr wine grapes were planted in 1972 and 1973. Today the vineyard boasts over 1,300 acres of vineyards in both Arroyo Seco and Santa Lucia Highlands. They lean towards the growth of Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Noir and Valdiguié. They also have 2,300 acres in Paso Robles dedicated to red varietals and 33 acres in Napa Valley with a focus on Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc. With such an extensive and diverse range of plantings, J Lohr produces many different types of wines at we have a good selection for you to explore here at the Fine Wine Company.
