.A dense, layered red with lots of blackberry and ripe fruit and some chocolate and coffee undertones. It.s full and flavorful. Still needs time to open. Drinkable now, but better in 2021.. 94 Points, James Suckling. From a warm vintage with an early harvest, this is a well-balanced Rioja with considerable complexity. There's a ripe plum character to the black fruit aromas, along with warm tobacco hints and earthy, undergrowth notes. Like a perfectly stretched tapestry, this shows a taut precision to the winemaking, with admirable balance. Polished black fruit, spice and chocolate notes show good persistence. A sense of freshness and fine tannins with juicy grip on the finish; this has life ahead of it. 95pts Decanter.97% Tempranillo, 3% Graciano. From bush vines that are at least 30 years old, with yields limited to 1.5 kg per vine. The philosophy is that it is blended with parcels that have ripened in a black-fruit profile that vintage. The aim is that 'in the mouth, the volume becomes evident, the fruit complexity nicely surrounds the mouth cavity showing the numerous and polished tannins. The wine has great length and a fruity and fresh sensation will last, inviting you to continue drinking.' Spontaneous fermentation in French oak vats and aged in French oakbarriques for 16 months (50% new and 50% second use). Healthy dark, shaded garnet. Rich, sweet, compact nose. Then admirably savoury, pure Tempranillo notes on the finish. Clearly very ambitious, as the price indicates, in the modern idiom but not too overdone. Refreshing finish after the velvety ripe start. Long and neat. Pretty impressive.. 17.5, Jancis Robinson.Mario Rotllant, who founded Roda in the mid-1980s, used methods that are commonplace now but were considered radical 35 years ago . reduce yields, use only natural yeast, take infinite pains with the winemaking. Winemaker Agustin Santolaya separates vintages into .Mediterranean. and .Atlantic., depending on the season.s influence. The 2015 is the former: warm, generous and perfumed with spice; plum and damson on the palate, the acidity fresh and the tannins delicate. Lovely concentrated finish. Ready to drink now but (as I.ve seen from tasting decades-old Roda) it will mature for years.. 93 Points Adam Lechmere, Club Oenologique
