Gisborne

Remote and less well-known than other New Zealand wine regions, Gisborne is in fact the third largest growing area in the country. It is best known for its white wines but there is still some quality red wine growth in the region. It is a historic region, claiming to be the first place Captain Cook saw when he landed on the island.

The climate is not ideal for red wine but there are a number of quality merlots produced in the region, as well as several sites where Malbec has been successfully grown. Semillon and Pinot Noir also do well with the right conditions. You can explore a wide range of Gisborne red wines here at The Fine Wine Company.
