Calabria

Calabrian wine is produced, as the name suggests, in the Italian wine region of Calabria, in Southern Italy. It is a region which is known for its rich red wines. Over 90% of all wines produced in Calabria are red and a huge proportion of them are produced from the Gaglioppo grape, whether on its own or blended with others.

Calabria has 12 different DOCs but only 4% of all the wine produced is classified as DOC, which means there are a lot of wines of different qualities and price points available from the region. Second to the Gaglioppo grape varietal is the white Greco grape which is often used in both red and white wines. The Greco Blanco, Trebbiano, Toscano and Malvasia Bianca varietals can also be found in the region and the winemakers create many different blends to be enjoyed. At The Fine Wine Company, we offer a range of Calabrian wines, showing off some of their finest flavours.
