The Alentejo wine region covers around a third of the whole of Portugal’s area and wines from the region are popular across Portugal and beyond. The red wines of Alentejo are known for be easy drinkers and the white wines are sharp and known for their acidity.

Grapes typically used in Alentejo include Borba, Évora, Redondo and Reguengos and these varietals are particularly good for producing the easy-drinking reds of the area. The stand out white grape of the region is Antão Vaz and it helps to create the tropical fruit flavours and acidic flavours the white wines of the region are known for. Traditional Portuguese grape varieties are mainly grown in the region but other varietals from further afield including Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon have also been planted in the area.
