Description

The wine is extremely old and exemplifies a classic Australian style. The colour is of an aged wine with a soft tan appearance and tinges of green towards the edge. There is a huge array of characters in this fortified ranging from walnuts, dried raisins, caramels, toffee, molasses, caramelised cumquats and lime, melted butter and after a moment aromas of beef stock, dusty hessian, and dried herbs appear. Overall the aroma has amazing concentration. The palate has superb intensity and is fresh with flavours of baked figs, butterscotch, toffee and dried fruits such as pear and nectarine. As it opens more and more characters appear balanced with great rolling rancio length from the time spent in barrel.

BREAKAGES

Our transit boxes are designed to withstand most things, but wine does however sometimes break in transit. Parcel Force advises us if there are any breakages in a daily delivery audit of all parcels sent the previous day. We resend all breakages as soon as they tell us of any problems. It is, however, still very important that you let us know of any breakages once received so we can arrange replacement wine for you as quickly as possible. We will always replace any wine broken in transit, be it your own personal wine, or in wine gifts sent to your customers, staff, family or friends. Please always check both the number of parcels and the condition of any wines you sign for - as we cannot be held liable for any breakages once you have accepted and signed for them.

The nose is an inviting swirl of flowers, spice, earth and red fruits including strawberries and freshly-picked mulberries. This is serious stuff, layered, lifted and complex. The palate is a textural wonderland, slippery graphite then grainy, gritty fruit tannin flows into earthy grip betraying its old-vine concentration. 2020 could well go down as one of the classic vintages in McLaren Vale for Riesling. Jasmine and orange blossom, along with lemon and lime characters leap from the glass. The sugar-acid balance from this fine vintage is unparalleled. While both are present, they manage to meld together creating a mouth-watering yet supple sherbet character, which finishes dry and mineral, not cloying in theslighte…

The wine has an enticing mix of primary fruit characters entwined with the first hints of moreish secondary nuances. There is an enormous concentration of blackberry and blackcurrant on the nose and palate, a whiff of flowers, ginger and stone fruit that we can attribute to the Viognier and depth is built through more savoury notes of fennel, fresh leather and cedar.

This wine displays a level of finesse and freshness that we dont always encounter in other vintages of the same wine. In a somewhat surprising contrast to this, the wine also displays a dense and varied array of fruit characters, from bright lifted purple plums and rhubarb through to more spice and herbal notes such as sage and cardamom, into even more complex earthy flavours of beetroot and soot…
