British White Wines
Although there has been a lot of buzz around the thriving British sparkling wine market, this should not come at the cost of overlooking the excellent white wines which are being made in Devon, Dorset, Surrey and Sussex. We have here an excellent collection of British white wines for you to explore.
Zesty, juicy and delicious
If you are looking for some clean, precise and exquisitely aromatic tastes to come through in your white wine, you will be sure to find that here. Ideal when paired with fish, or anything which has a salty, lemony component, these white wines will certainly please. You will see that there is much more to enjoy when it comes to British wines than just the bubbly stuff.
The Bacchus grape
What has become clear is that wine-makers in Britain are finding particular joy using the Bacchus grape variety. Many of the English Bacchus grape wines have in fact been receiving numerous awards over the last few years. This grape can lead to gorgeously full and vibrant palate, a good acidity level and a nice and light body that can offer a lower abv. It also tends towards a dry or off-dry style. It comes from Germany, having been developed through various crossings in 1933, but it was not till the 1970s that it found its way to Britain. The reason why it has done so well in England - as many of the wines here attest to - is down to the cooler climate keeping the right amount of acidity in play.
An exciting collection
But it is not just the Bacchus grape which is on show here in this collection, as you can also go for a number of other grapes such as Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, to name just a few. This wine collection shows off the very best in British wine-making, with some highly garlanded names represented. Choose from the likes of Balfour, Hush Heath Estate, Chapel Down and Stopham Estate, and you will understand why the British white wine scene is in many ways just as exciting as that of sparkling wine.
