There is so much more to tequila than simply something you slam at the end of a night out. It is rich in subtle and distinctive flavours with a complexity to be proud of and as much esteem as a fine cognac or single malt, when you select the right bottle of course. Tequila is made from the agave plant, with the blue agave heralded as the most superior type. It has a distinctive flavour and is split into four distinctive categories: blanco, reposado, añejo and extra añejo, ordered from youngest to oldest.
Tequilas can also be found in Puro or Mixto style, with Puro representative of tequilas which are 100% agave whereas cheaper alternatives, labelled mixto, are less than 100% agave. Mixto or blended tequilas have to be at least 51% agave to be considered genuine. Casamigos Mezcal is balanced and elegant, offering harmonious hints of tamarind, pomegranate, banana and mango. Fresh herbal mint aromas, dried oregano and thyme lend character to the mezcal. The delicate tones of smoke, hints of licorice and mineral nuances lead to a long silky finish.
Dark, rich brown. Aromas of chocolate and coffee, with a hint of earthy agave. The rich sweet taste of freshly roasted coffee, notes of chocolate, vanilla and agave, finishes smooth but dry with rich coffee flavours.
Golden amber colour. Earthy, honest honey aromas that promise a hint of sweetness. Rich, sweet and full of honey. The agave is there but the palate is dominated by the honey, it finishes with caramel and smoky notes.
Two species of agave are used to produce Derrumbes Michoacan: agave Cupreata brings mature fruit aromas, while agave Cenizo brings more herbal notes. Cooked in an underground stone pit using black oak, Derrumbes Michoacan is fermented in underground tanks lined with pine wood which adds to the herbal character.
