Very complex spicy nose. Sweet cedary notes from the hint of new oak used mingle with a hint of liquorice. The mid-palate is plump with rounded tannins and complex layers of flavour. The finish is long and rewarding.
Dark fruit and savoury characters leap from the glass, in particular there is liquorice and blackberry, laced with a hint of char. Complexity in the shape of iodine and soil like notes follow. The wine is powerful and structured. There is a plethora of sweet fruit character, plums and mulberries, but not a hint of fatness. Rather the wine is quite compact and focused. A powerful yet refined expres…
The cool ripening conditions of the 2011 vintage have helped craft a wine that is refined yet structured. The nose is incredibly lifted and fragrant, red fruits and peppery spices feature strongly. As the wine breathes we are struck by a raft of darker and more earthy aromas such as mulberry, black plum, soot and baking spice. The palate is pleasantly bright with lively acidity and elegant fruit w…
On the nose we are struck by the typical dark fruits that drinkers of this wine have come to love and expect. Plums, mulberries, fresh soil and more developed peaty like notes are all apparent, with an underlying lick of exotic Indian spice. But, it is the irony, stone like character that gives away the vintage. An abundance of fresh fruits on the palate marry well with the more complex characters…
The nose is chock-full of fresh blackberries, cherries and dark chocolate sprinkled with spices. The palate is fresh and juicy, ripe red fruits mix with plums, blackcurrant, flowers and a twist of black pepper. The tannins are fine with dArenbergs trademark earthiness helping keep this easy going wine in check.
Deep crimson in colour. Lifted and perfumed with violets, cassis, blueberries, plums, blackberries and spice with hints of vanilla and cedar. The palate is supple and shows soft, fleshy, nicely textured fruit with mossy notes and a long finish.
A vibrant colour and nose exhibits perfumed violets and subtle spice. The palate delivers bright primary Pinot characters of red cherry and raspberry, through to fine tannins of well integrated French Oak
Dense black centre with a deep garnet rim. The nose shows lashings of dark plums and chocolate with hints of mint. A wine a great dignity, its structure is superbly taut, with intense depth of fruit reined in by the firm tannins. As befits a wine made in strictly limited quantities, this is a wine for posterity and may be cellared with confidence.
Shaw Smith make a medium bodied cool-climate Shiraz, in which balance is more important than power. The 2010 Shiraz has notes of blueberry and mulberry on the nose, and a palate that also shows some dry spice notes (fennel seed), some earthy notes and which has plenty of ripe, round tannins that are initially overwhelmed by the fruit, but which become more apparent and assertive on the finish
Full bodied and generous, displaying powerful fruit characteristics. Blackcurrants and dark fleshy fruits combine with spicy/vanillin oak characters. The wine is balanced with dense fruit, firm tannins and a lingering finish.
