English Sparkling Wines

The English sparkling wine movement is well-represented in our exciting collection. We have brought together some choice selections from some of the pioneers of the English sparkling wine industry such as Nyetimber. Continue reading below to find out more about sparkling wines from England and what makes them so special.

About Sparkling Wines from England

It is now no secret that English sparkling wines are a little bit special. Having secured prestigious awards, many of the English sparkling wine makers are staking their claim as being part of a new, exciting and vital alternative tradition of wine-making history. England's increase in sparkling wine production has gone from a curiosity to a headline. Ever since English sparkling wines surprisingly won the taste test against some of the most renowned Champagne houses, you simply couldn't help but be more than a touch intrigued.

Fresh and fruity

Part of the unique charm of English sparkling wine is down to its particular freshness; the character of many English sparkling wines is one which could also be described as clean, with the quality of the fruit being placed centre stage in the taste. It looks as though this is a scene which is set to grow over the next few decades, as the areas in Southeast England such as Dorset, Sussex, Kent and Hampshire have become sparkling wine havens.

Delicate slow-ripened flavours

A cool climate, but one which nevertheless is crucially slightly warmer than it used to be, means that the grapes are able to ripen slowly. This, in turn, encourages the development of delicate flavours. The soil-type in these wine-producing areas of England is most often chalk, a free-draining soil, which also enables the root systems to remain in optimum condition.

Award-winning wine

There are also many treats to be found from many of the multiple award winning wineries such as Ridgeway, Balfour and Coates & Seely, just to name a few. Such wineries, as well as many more in our excellent collection, will offer you a taste which might take you straight to the orchard. English sparkling wine provides an invigorating sense of the fruits and minerals which go into them. After proving themselves as worthy competitors to the Champagne equivalents, they have started to carve out their own lane, and it is exciting to be able to taste the achievements of this wine revolution.
